Dad's Birthday

This was me and my Dad -- Christmas 1973.  I am right where I want to be.  I don't think Dad minded too much. ;)

Today is my Dad's birthday.  Not WAS my Dad's birthday but IS my Dad's birthday.  This is the day he was born on and I will do everything I can to honor him today.  I am not going to make a list of things I miss about my Dad, lest I run out of room here.  Sometimes to say I miss him is a huge understatement.  I ACHE for him.  I want to see him and touch him so bad it hurts. 

My Mom and I are going to do something special tonight in honor of my Dad, and oh yes -- we will include eating a piece of cake for him! :)

Currently wondering...

why 2 of the ducks from the neighborhood pond down the street chose my backyard to mate in this morning.

Another episode of Good Idea, Bad Idea

Or also known as... I am a true blonde.

Good Idea: Have a family night.  Go to all you can eat pizza at Double Dave's Pizzaworks.  Have all you can eat of their delicious pizza, pepperoni rolls, salad, soda, and dessert pizzas.  Have wonderful family chat.  Life is good...

Bad Idea: Decide to extend the evening away from television and video games.  Walk to park down the street.  Take a brisk walk around very LARGE pond while the boys play soccer, then swing and get on the merry-go-round with them.  Then when you realize you are exhausted, glutinous, dizzy, and delirious remember then that you walked there and also have to walk home...

OH well.... Was still a fun night! ;)

AGAIN with the breakfast dilemma!

Grrrrr!!!

Shane wants it ALL for breakfast and Jace wants nothing.  I am so fed up with trying to get the kids out out bed and fed breakfast at the same time with something they both will eat I decided it was time again for cereal.  If they aren't going to get up in time to eat the breakfast I fix, then so be it...

Day 1, I put out cereal.  Keep in mind, my kids NEVER eat cereal -- well, except for this particular week.  They are all smiley and looking at the stuff on the box, etc.

Day 2 morning comes and you would have thought I laid out cyanide!  Shane was slamming things and Jace gave me a speech about how if you eat cereal EVERY morning it is detrimental to your health.  He let me know they are actually teaching him this at school.  Come on!  Isn't there better stuff to learn at school?

Sigh...

I give up.  Anybody got any great breakfast recipes?

Hello? Is anyone home??

What a rough life Shane, my 14-year old has! I just realized how much he goes through, poor thing!

The morning after the flood, I saw that he called me a few times on my cell phone the night before.  I couldn't imagine WHY he would have been calling me from his bedroom when I am just down the hall.  Can you?

Well, what a silly question -- right?  He OBVIOUSLY wanted to make sure that he had the correct time on his clock since the time change was in effect and he couldn't yell over the loud fans in the hall from the flood restoration services. 

What?  Get OUT of bed and come ask me in the living room?  What COULD I have been thinking? 

Sigh....

Over the weekend

I had a delightful surprise.

Well, maybe delightful isn't exactly the proper word to be used here...Let''s see what you think.

I went out of town over the weekend only to come home through the garage, enter my hallway and here squish squish squish.  Hmmm...  Knowing I don't have mice in my house, I knew something was up. 

Well, knowing good and well that I was walking on CARPET this caused me a bit of confusion.  When I looked down I saw that the carpet was completely SATURATED.  The toilet had been overflowing and now the hallway, my study and Jace's bedroom have ruined flooring.  I had to get an emergency restoration service to come and rip up the carpet, remove the padding and set up huge blowers and de-humidifiers to prevent mildew. 

So, THIS is now my hallway. 

THIS is now poor little Jace's room.

And THIS is where Jace had to sleep last night.  That is, when his Mom would finally quit taking pictures using the flash while he was trying to get some rest. Silly woman!

So, the bad news is no carpet now and be careful not to accidentally step on those carpet tacks sticking up.  The good news is that it needed to be replaced anyway and I really wanted hardwoods in that high traffic area so now is as good of a time as any to get that done.  :)
