You know those little ads in the back of comics that you saw when you were growing up?
There was 1 in particular I always wanted to order in the mail called SeaMonkeys. The cartoon showed whole little families living their lives just below the surface of a fish tank and I always thought how amazing that must be. There were some with blonde hair, some babies, and some with freckles even. I don't know if it was smelling all that ink in the comics that made me delirious at that point or my youthful dreaminess that made me somehow believe that these were actually real.
Well, it turns out I think they are tiny shrimp? I still am not completely sure.
Well, apparently they have a rather big following because today is the official Sea-Monkey Appreciation Day.
