Tried T/Gel Shampoo by Neutrogena--it helped a bit. I have also been using just a dab of cortizone cream and it has mostly cleared up except between my brows but it has improved.

Just thought I would update ;)

I just wanted to say that I have lots of these little medical idiosynchracies like this (nothing individually serious) and frankly, my whole life I have felt like a freak because of them - like I was defective, and that I just wanted to kill myself (seriously) cuz so many people seem perfect, you know. So I think I have been spared...at least for a while.

Thanks!

Emily

For a long time I thought that it was salt deposits from sweating throughout the day. I just got used to wiping my brows fequently to ensure that noone else would notice it. It wasn't until recently that it started to look like flakes and dry skin. My best girlfriend who went to beauty school was over and I said I think I have eyebrow dandruff, jokeingly! She said let me see, and then confirmed that it was and that such a thing did exist. They learned about in school even. She recommended a deep moisturizer and sluffing the skin away, but I haven't found much to work. By the time I get home from work, my brows are full of flakes. It's really freaking me out. Nothing like eyebrow dandruff hanging around when you already have inherent self esteem issues. This one is almost as bad as the bumps on my arms. I'm a mutilated freak! What's next? Breast milk leaking from my nose? Pimples in my mouth? Hair growing out of my lips? Bring it on!!!!!!

My old grandmother told me the cure. Wash with a mild soap, dry thoroughly, then swab with olive oil. Do this twice a day, every day. When you believe you're cured, you only need to do this once a day. Forever!

well,i have all of what everybody else has,i've tried it all, except the cortizone and vinegar, which i will be doing soon.
I hate the flake's falling into my eye's,so what i do is shave them off, male's can do things like this, and get away with it.lol.but of course it is different with female's.

Sometimes I can feel my eyebrow itching where I get dandruff. It amkes me think how mites might be moving around or eating off skin and that's why it itches!

IF U HAVE THIS PROBLEM PLZ READ!!!!!!!
I had eyebrow dandruff real bad to the point where i was losing enough hair that hairless spots were beginning to form on the brow. I tried everything from moisturizor to the leading dandruff shampoos (but the latter did lessen the severity of the dandruff and helped save some hair). Finally I was about to go to a dermatologist when i decided to check on the internet for a cure. On this website i found a recommendation for LISTERENE. Desperate i decided to try it. I am not a DR but i would assume that dandruff is a product of a bacterial infection because after 7 CONSECUTIVE days of applying a good coating of it on my eyebrows the problem is virtually gone. Around the 4th day is when you should begin to see improvement. WARNING - apply consecutive days at least ONCE a day if not more or else it may not work. I put it on at least 20 min before a shower and then washed it off. By the way i used cinammon listerene but i do not think that it matters

The Answer

This is the way to beat eyebrow dandruff. 1st go to a dermatologist - the visit will run you about 75 but you will know what you are dealing with. I was then given a cortisone cream - it helped lessen the severity but did not cure the problem. I then decided to try a new approach MOISTORIZOR. I added a THICK layer of normal severe dry skin lotion along the edges/ending/beginning of the brow and then used a thick layer of lotion called Eucera on the surface of the brow itself (the reason i recommend it is that it wont clump like the regular lotion i used on the sides). I did this every night for about 3 weeks and the results were astonishing. Maybe you need to do this method in concert with the cortisone cream or just by itself but i firmly believe if you want to cure your dandruff moistorize it away just know that this is not an overnight cure but one that will take a couple of weeks!

Im a guy and ive had this for years, wow thought i was the only one.

I find that using Nivea hand and face moisturiser helps. It goes if you do this every day but if you forget it creeps back.

Its handy to leave one of those really small vaseline tins in your pocket. The green one has aloe in which also helps. Vaseline makes them a little shiny at first so do it a bit before you go out.

Head and shoulders makes it worse I found.

People used to rip it out of me at school when I had it. Particularly the day I used aloe vera gel and had green clumps in my eye brows. Back in the day i used to wash my eyebrows and use a nit comb to get the large flakes but my problem is much less serious now.

Plucking your eyebrows and keeping them thin actually helps. Maybe not all guys favourite cure but nobody wants Charlie Busted eyes.

People who suffer have to face it that it has to be part of the daily routine otherwise it will haunt you.

Two final tips; make sure you wash all of the shampoo and conditioner off your face and hair before you get out of the shower. And for guys, do not use lots of hair gel. Not only cos it goes crispy, but it makes this problem worse. Get a haircut which you can blow dry the style and then you only have to use a small amount of texturising paste. Sounds irrelevant but has definately helped me. Gel made it ten times worse.

Vinegar in your eyebrows sounds awfull. I know it wouldnt work for me if a got a wiff of vinegar when kissing a girl!

Hope this helps guys and gals!

Mark

This is HILARIOUS!!

After a productive session of fingernail scraping to get this weekend's healthy batch of dry skin build-up off of my tender brows, I decided to look this crap up online.

Glad I stumbled upon this! What's interesting, it seems many people have just started experiencing this dry issue. Shall I hint at a government conspiracy? I really don't want to go there.

I've had this problem for two years, but, it wasn't that surprising since I have other major and minor skin conditions. BUT, the eyebrow woes began when I moved back down to Florida after living up north for two years.

But hey, it's awesome when you are in an important meeting or on business travel, you sit and begin chatting with someone and, in your periferal, see pretty white snowflake-like chunks of skin dusting your notebook, desk, newspaper, training manual, or lunch. Nothing says "clean" and "sanitary" and "I'm a go-getter!" like a delicate sprinkling of flaky, dead skin.

Carmex has worked for me. And, make sure you drink A LOT of water. Until I forced myself to drink 8 glasses a day, I never realized how little water I actually consumed.

I'm interested in this Listerine remedy. Happy gums, happy brows.

Try Hydrocortizone cream. You can get it at any local srore, CVS, Walgreens, Brooks, even grocery s tores like Stop & Shop and Shaws.

oh wow, i'm not the only one with eyebrow dandruff! :( i just got it last year, most likely from changes in humidity, and i read, maybe even from emotional stress. my aloe vera body butter isn't working, so i decided to research the condition online. i found the american academy of family physician's website, which someone mentioned already, http://www.aafp.org/afp/20000501/2703.html, and it says that if Seborrheic Dermatitis is left untreated, it could turn yellow and scaley!!! (after researching other skin probs, i'm convinced our problem is indeed SD.) so, the website recommmends both ketoconazole cream, 2 percent, and 1 percent hydrocortisone cream, however ketoconazole seems to be more for treatment rather than permanent relief. i guess Nizoral is the main keoconazole out there, or at least most popular. the cheapest 2% Nizoral i've found in shampoo form (in case the cream form kills my eyebrow hairs) is at www.canadadrugsuperstore.com, $9.97. apparently you need a prescription in the u.s. for this stuff.

i'll try the listerine thing for now, until i find the willpower to get my butt to the doctor's office for an rx.

hey guys... i have a remedy for that stupid eyebrow dandruff. just rub a little Burts Bees lip balm on it once a day (or as needed). when it starts to tingle, it's working. it's really doing the trick for me. i guess any kind of moisterizing lip stuff would work. if it heals dry lips, it'll heal dry skin i s'pose. but yeah, those white flakes are really annoying.

matt

IF there is the cure here it is after having tried EVERYTHING i did my research and TOLD my damn dermatologist to prescribe me ELIDEL (pimecrolimus 1%) it is safe and effective and is the revolutionizing way to treat this horrible disease. DONT try these housewives cures none of them work - trust me i tried but u can look at this if u do not believe me

I have been dealing with this issue for 10 years!!!!!!!!

I can not believe I am not the only one!! WOW, that feels good.
We all know it sucks, I have been relentlessly trying the piling of moisturizers, all different kinds (perfumed, non-perfumed, lip balm, every face cream, chap stick, triple antibiotic ointments, KY, anything and everything!!!!!) and non of it worked. Sure the piling of moisturizer might get me through a day with a little less flakes to worry about, but nothing cured it.
I have also done the no-dandruff shampoos, and every combination of products. I spoke to a doctor, and she said to do everything I listed above and nothing worked.
The thing is… I don’t have a dandruff issue on my head, and I have never had a dry face or any flaking anywhere else.

After reading these comments, it only makes sense that the issue is not moisturizing. I am going to support the LISTERENE theory for my next attempt. It makes sense, there is something there that needs to be killed. We are probably all making it worse by moisturizing the infected area… haven’t you ever grown bacteria on a petry dish?

Well.. I am off, wish me luck!

Oh my goodness... I came across this eyebrow dandruff strand because I was just diagnosed with "Blepharitis" by my opthamologist--it's an eye condition that resembles allergy eyes/ and in extreme form like pink-eye. Go to: http://www.nei.nih.gov/health/blepharitis/index.asp.
Anyway, one of the causes of blepharitis is dandruff. Since I don't have dandruff on my scalp, but I have been suffering from eyebrow dandruff for the past two years-- I decided to google it out of curiosity just now and came across this blog. So-- in case some of you also suffer from eye problems and you are just assuming it's allergies, you might want to visit a good opthamologist. It turns out that the prescription allergy eye drops I've been using were making it even worse! Thank you for all of the good info for the treatment of brow dandruff--- I guess until I get that under control, I won't be able to make the blepharitis go away...

I got it too. I got everything ridiculous and obscure. Eyebrow dandruff, hyperhydrosis (cold, sweaty hands and feet), back acne, moderately oversized nipples, and now, a drinking problem. Don't worry people, there are always much bigger freaks out there! All these minor ailments are just a way of making us appreciate midgets and albinos. Cuticle cream works kinda okay, by the way.

PAPI

I GOT THE SAME PROBLEM.. ACTUALLY I HAVE ALOT MORE. I ALSO HAVE ACNE ISSUES. I DONT BREAK OUT AS MUCH AS I USED TO 4 MONTHS AGO, I BREAK OUT ABOUT TWICE A WEEK NOW. SO MY MAIN ISSUES RIGHT NOW IS EYEBROW DANDRUFF (IT GETS REALLY RED TOO) AND BLEMISHES (ACNE SCARS)... I DONT KNOW WHATS CAUSING BUT IF I HAVE TO GUESS ITS STRESS. IM VERY STRESS WITH MY LIFE. ESPECIALLY WITH MY FAMILY. ANYWAYS..... I THINK STRESS IS THE MAJOR CAUSE FOR THIS, TRY NOT TO WORRY AS MUCH!
