Note: There are some worty dirds on here but I can't change those.
I have been assigned to do the newsletter for my online spades team since I am perceived to be creative and have my own webpage. I actually enjoy doing these types of things, BUT I can't seem to make anything look right! I have been working for 2 weeks and the dumb background on MY computer duplicates itself and shows 2 margins. On everyone else's, it seems not to do this. So everything is out of whack and when I think it looks right to me, it looks wrong to everyone else.
So how am I supposed to arrange things on the dang page and know what's going on if I can't preview them from my computer? :(
His last day of school was Friday and he had an awards ceremony the night before. He made the A/B Honor Roll and also got an additional award only a few students in the entire school received. It was a special award called the "Character Award" and it is given to people who stand out as having very good integrity, acting as a role model, and good judgement.
I am so PROUD of you Shane!
It's been a long hard road but he has definitely risen to the occassion and made us all proud.
I am FINALLY beating this cold. I am just a little tired now but I think I am over the worst part of it.
Today was the last day of school for Jace and yes, I need to brag. He made straight A's AGAIN! This means he made Straight A's on every report card. I also got the TAKS report back and he made a perfect score on everything. He did not miss ONE question! I couldn't believe it, well..actually, yes I could. He is so smart!
At the awards ceremony yesterday he got a reading award, 2 math awards, an A honor roll award and then another award for being on the A Honor Roll all year. He was very close to having perfect attendance but didn't quite make it because he got sick here at the end with me and Shane.
This end of school for him kind of snuck up on me and I wasn't totally prepared for it all since Shane's last day is Friday. Jace had the sweetest teacher this year that wrote me a thank you card that brought me to tears! This was her first year to teach and also her last at Jace's school since she is moving after her wedding this summer. She had such enthusiasm for her students and her teaching. Jace was really sad that she won't be there next year, but will see her soon at a swimming party that was planned for some of the students so it wasn't a huge good-bye scene today.
Every child in her class brought home a framed photo of themselves with the the teacher and a little poem. She is so sweet! She gave me a thank you gift since I was the room-mom and it was beautiful notecards!!! It had my initials on them and, yep -- they were embossed in PINK! How did she know? ;) It has been a really good year for Jace. I just wish everyone could have teachers as great as this! If only she could have worked on that vegetarian pronunciation/definition a little?
I know I will probably be remembered as the room-mom that thought it was a good idea to make gingerbread houses for the 3rd Grade Christmas party and who never ceases to be amazed by our children, but that's a good thing. All in all, it was a great year for Jace who has grown in leaps and bounds and attained so much knowledge it is hard to keep up with him! He is growing up so fast. Thanks for a great year!
I was chatting away with a friend online this morning in my PJs, nothing out of the ordinary there.
I had thrown a zippered hoodie on over my PJ tank top and some flip-flops to run Shane to school. The bottoms were cotton capris so it didn't really look like PJs if you weren't paying attention and I had an emergency or something.
However, I had forgotten that I had a delivery this morning. I had ordered a stone garden bench for my backyard (will post picture later). Scott just happened to be home for something, probably to grab another pill or something, and let me know they were at the door. I ran to the door, still in my PJ attire, and directed them to come around to the back.
In the meantime Beau, my nosy dog, had to run out to greet our guests and I couldn't get him to come back in as the men were walking back to the delivery truck. The men froze.
I am thinking how sweet! They know Beau is following them and are patiently waiting for him to come back in the house with me so he doesn't follow them into the street!
It was right then and there that I happened to look at the direction of the eyes and then I knew! I was bending over patting on the tops of my thighs for Beau to come inside. I was still wearing my loose PJ tank top and NO bra!
I usually don't do forwards here but these are pretty funny.
Ladies- If you accidentally over-salt a dish while it's still cooking, drop in a peeled potato and it will absorb the excess salt for an instant fix-me up.
Real Women- If you over-salt a dish while you are cooking, that's too darn bad. Please recite the Real Women's motto: "I made it and you will eat it and I don't care how bad it tastes."
Ladies- Cure for headaches: Take a lime, cut it in half and rub it on your forehead. The throbbing will go away.
Real Women- Take a lime, mix it with tequila, chill and drink. You might still have the headache, but who cares. (Mom, of course if you are reading this -- this doesn't apply to me! ) :)
Ladies- Stuff a miniature marshmallow in the bottom of a sugar cone to prevent ice cream drips.
Real Women- Just suck the ice cream out of the bottom of the cone, for goodness sake, you are probably lying down on the couch, with your feet up anyway!
Ladies- To keep potatoes from budding, place an apple in the bag with the potatoes.
Real Women- Buy boxed mashed potato mix and you don't have to worry about the potatoes growing arms and legs.
Ladies- When a cake recipe calls for flouring the baking pan, use a bit of the dry cake mix instead and there won't be any white mess on the outside of the cake.
Real Women- Go to the bakery- they'll even decorate it for you!
Ladies- Brush some egg white over pie crust before baking to yield a beautiful glossy finish.
Real Women- Sara Lee frozen pie directions do not include brushing egg white over anything, so don't do it!
Ladies- If you have a problem opening jars, try using latex dishwashing gloves. They give a non-slip grip that makes opening jars easy.
Real Women- Go ask the very HOT neighbor guy to do it! (If only I a neighbor under the age of 80! And of course Scotty, if you are reading this -- this doesn't apply to me!)
Ladies- Don't throw out all the leftover wine, freeze into ice cubes for future use in casseroles and sauces.
Real Women- What leftover wine??? (Ditto on the Mom thing again)
Finally -- the most important*
Ladies- A good friend will come and bail you out of jail.
Real Women- A true friend will be sitting nexxt to you saying, "Wow....that was fun!"
We actually went out to dinner tonight and I coughed the ENTIRE meal. Oh, and don't make me laugh! It is horrendous!
The funny part about this whole thing is that about a week and a half ago, on Superman's insistence, I started actually taking some multi-vitamins and supplements. Although this was nothing to the tune of 100 pills a day, I thought I might be taking a step in the right direction in the area of my health. Well....
Go figure, I start having sinus and allergy symptoms and now have a full blown cold! Ack!!! Just a coincidence do you think? Can my body just not process the fact that I am taking in vitamins? What is the deal? :(
I have slept most of the day. I went to bed early last night, got up this morning and went back to bed. This is without any cold medication. My body is just worn out. I hurt so bad even the bottoms of my feet hurt. My throat is so itchy inside that it even itches on the outside! Has anybody else ever experienced this? Very unpleasant!
Anyhow, back to Superman. He thinks its always a good idea to throw fruit and veggies that are going bad out into the flower beds. This is how we ended up with wild tomato plants in the middle of my front flower beds facing the street, very much looking like the Beverly Hillbillies had come to our subdivision. He promised to stop.
This year he was placing nasty orange rinds in the front flower pots. His rationale was taking care of our baby birds. The other day I went outside to find a trail of ants going into the back flower beds. Upon following this trail I saw them marching to several rotten strawberries.
I am thinking enough is enough here. You think it couldn't get any worse with Scotty "helping" me with my flowerbeds? Well I go outside the other day to see a bunch of pill capsules rolling around on the patio!!! When I asked him if he had been taking some pills outside and dropped some, I got a sheepish grin. "Well, those are actually some Super Green Pills that I have decided to stop taking so I thought it would be great for fertilizer! Good idea, huh?"
Great! Now all my neighbors think we literally have pills overflowing the house.
